Dylan Pic.jpg

Dylan Swanepoel

Director & Screenwriter

My main goal currently is to work on sets until I can make it to the UK. In the meantime I am writing and refining a feature length script that I hope to eventually pitch and sell (and, depending on my experience, direct). I am more confident now than ever that I can make this a reality for myself. Other work:
Some of the AFDA work that I’ve done that I am most proud of are Hit Station and Rictus, both from 2019. Outside of AFDA I’ve mostly been doing smaller freelance work for corporations. In the future: In the future you will find me nicely settled into a career outside of South Africa. However I aim to reinvest in my home country and give what I can to the local industry, making South Africa a powerful force in the industry.

Wandile Vezi

Producer

I'm Wandile Vezi, born on the 24th September 1995, in the sunny city of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Currently, I am a third year Producing student at the  AFDA Durban Campus.  Initially when I started attending AFDA, I wanted to do Live Performance, since I already had a background in performing throughout all the years in high school, but when I got to AFDA, I got introduced to the world of behind the scenes, and I never looked back. Producing gives me the chance to create all aspects of filmmaking and deliver the content that people want to see. I'm a traveller, and being around many different countries in various continents, it therefore helps with thinking of constant concepts and different ideas to put and form as a film.

Gino Pic.jpg

Gino Guiamaraes

Cinematographer

I have experience in the local music industry as a performer, this gave me the vision and ability to translate many organic situations to film, I mainly focus on camera movement and handled shots, movement is an important aspect to me as it is the difference between presenting a still image and a video.

I have chosen this field due to my love of the greats, Stanley Kubrick being one of my biggest influences along with George Lucas.

I aspire one day to be one of the first choices when it comes to hiring a camera operator for specifically their movement.

Some of My previous AFDA films include:

Blacksite 237

Everything goes better with Coke

The Lost Labyrinth

Outside of AFDA Productions:

Project Blue (Durban 48hr film fest 2019) nominated best music

I am a 22 year old black female editor, soon to be graduate in BA in Motion Pictures, a fashion enthusiast, an aspiring creative director and restaurateur, a kick-boxer, a true feminist at heart and a proud older sister of two extraordinary boys.
Throughout the year a close friend of mine and I have orchestrated a couple of photo shoots. I would create, direct, scout for locations, work on the costume, make-up and styling and odd occasion edit the photographs.
I also record BTS of the shoots I attend and edit the footage together as a way of enhancing my video editing skills.
I have done SFX make-up for a Gqom music video(shot in 2020) in KwaMashu.

Lindani Tshomela

Sound Designer

At the time of me picking my disciplines in my freshman year in college I already had a background in sound since I used to make music digitally in high school so I figured that some of the things I’d learnt from making music digitally in the past would help me when it came to Sound Recording and Sound Design.
Editing was a part of the package with the course I picked and I’ve grown and admiration for it whilst I’ve been studying it.
I’m yet to decide on which on which application of sound I’d like to specialise in but I’d like to have tried a lot of the applications of sound in film to see what I prefer to specialise in.

Raecine Pic.JPG

Raecine Gounder

Production Designer

My name is Raecine Gounder and I am a Production

Designer. My job consists of finding locations, planning

and designing each script location’s look and feel,

making or planning each prop meant for each character

and designing set dressing for the locations. As a

Production Designer, it is my job to make the world of

story a reality for its characters through environmental

look and feel.

I chose to be a production designer because working

with colours and the meaning behind them was quite

fascinating to me when I first studied production design

and in every film I’ve worked on since then, has had

immense colour theory in it, colour is known to

manipulate the audiences feelings and so, it is quite an

empowering feeling to know that you can add to the

audiences feelings when they are watching your work.

I hope to one day become a professional Production

Designer in the industry because I am now only a

student.

A few of the films that I have worked on are:

• Portal passenger (2019)

• Quietus

• Why can’t you see Me (2019)

• Maintenance (2019); Plated (2019)

Actor (Cow Boy)

This crew member brought their delightful personality and creative mindset with them each and every day, helping to set the collaborative tone throughout the duration of the project.

Chris Shezi Pic.jpg

Chris Shezi

Actor (The Boss)

I’m Chris Shezi and I’m 24 years old. 3rd Year Live Performance student at AFDA Durban. I believe I have the interpersonal skills that would help contribute to the job as I can speak to big crowds of people and I feel I come with a unique story from what I’ve heard, and learnt in the Acting and Music industry, and coming from my background, I feel like I could tell my story and kids who also come from my family’s background of middle to upper class, but struggling with maintaining academics, can be inspired by me.
I also like all kinds of business ventures outside my profession, that are motivated by what I’m pursuing, or business that comes from all around the world. I also want to incorporate a lot of those skills I’ve learned through the lecturers and experience I’ve been in/through, to build ambiance, to prove that the Art I create is out of this world.

Ntando Pic.JPG

Nontando Ndlangamandla

Actress (Nelly)

My name is Nontando Ndlangamandla, a 20 year old Actress born and bred in Durban.

Growing up, I was always a maths and science geek but the thought of the fields of work I could've possibly went into - having to wake up every day to do the same thing at work sounded boring to me. So initially, going into acting was a way of me getting to do something different all the time with every character I play, but the more I learnt about acting, the more I started to fall in love with storytelling and the process as a whole. This led to me wanting to write and create my own stories on top of acting.

In the upcoming years, I 100% see myself creating my own films - writing, directing and acting in them and having my own production company, collaborating with local broadcasters if possible. I recently wrote, directed and acting in my own film, Lerato's Journey and am currently working on another one. I've also been previously casted in AFDA films, namely Connection Revised, Plated, Roadkill, Channel 95, Memoirs of Gladys, SWAK and uThomas.

Ayabonga Pic.JPG

Ayabonga Zuma

Actor (Young Man)

Ayabonga Zuma is a twenty year old, young man who was born in the cold mountains of Estcourt, he spent his first 3 years of life living with his Grandmother, Agnes Ndlovu as his mother, Nozipho was still in university and his father was always at work, trying to make as much money for them to survive.

At early ages of 5, he started to realize that he had great talents in the arts and that is when it all started for him, especially musically. Ayabonga started playing the piano and singing, mostly imitating artists that were being played at home, he also at the same time spent a lot of time watching what was being done in movies and learning all the actions and lines word for word, just because he loved him performing for his family.

Zuma soon started school in a school called the St Nicholas Diocesan school, this is where his talents were nurtured and conducted to what they are now at his twenties, where he is a nationally recognized as “Sykes” the musician, teaming up with the biggest names in the country such as Prince Kaybee, Distruction Boyz and many others.

He is also starring in a few films at AFDA where he is currently studying and doing his second year in Live Performance.

As an artist in the future I don't see myself being an actor only, I see myself as one of the best storyteller, script writer, theatre writer and a Producer. I see myself as a very huge brand in the entertainment industry having a very huge impact in the society. I see myself as a revolutionarist through art. I see myself as one of the people to be counted on the list of people who took the South African theatre and film industry to the very highest level in the world. Basically I want to be the best that anyone can ever be.

Asanda Khathi Pic.JPG

Asanda Khathi

Actor (Outlaw 2)

I am a second year LP student and I chose Live Performance because that is where my passion lies, that is where my heart is on the stage, yes theatre is my first love but i have always adored film, it is a whole new language and I'm loving it.

My aspirations in this field are pretty massive but are attainable, definitely. My greatest honour will be to share the same title Mrs Viola Davis, the only Black person and Woman who has the privilege of being known as an actor who has the Triple Crown of Acting. Winner of a Tony Award, an Emmy and an Oscar, that's just the few of my aspirations, i also want to to change the film industry for South Africa, make it a worthwhile experience, something our people, our audience can be hooked on, interested in and proud of.

At AFDA i have worked on numerous films whether they were exams or i was assisting. But i have worked outside of AFDA with choreographer Sabelo Cele, performing at the Botho Heritage Festival, UKZN PMB Dance Experia with Gregory Maqoma, Wushwini Arts Festival and the AFDA Awards. Recently, a jointly owned company with myself and 3 other AFDA students (EMPYA Creations) we have worked on a JOMBA Dance film with again Sabelo Cele and Gregory Maqoma as our mentor. We came 2nd in the JOMBA Dance Fringe and that qualified to have the prestigious Mr. Gregory Maqoma as our mentor. Also EMPYA CREATIONS participated in this year's 48Hour Film Festival, so you can be on the look out for that.
